Zimbabwe Update

In late 2008 - The FCO travel advice was revised and had generally softened to allow travel through most areas of the country again. Please click on the following link to view the current information and advice for yourself - www.fco.gov.uk/zimbabwe

Our return to Zimbabwe in February 2009 has continued receiving positive reports and feedback by all of our travellers and crew alike. We are looking forward to continuing our visits to one of the most hospitable and beautiful countries in Southern Africa. It is of our intention to continue running our original Zimbabwe itineraries - as detailed in our 2009/10 brochure. But please be aware that this is subject to change (dependant on FCO advice and the local situation) - and we may have to revert back to using our alternative Zambia itinerary. We will continue monitoring the local situation using the resources of our local agents , operators and crew. If and when such a decision is made to alter our itinerary for this section of the trip - we will endeavour to inform all our travellers as promptly as possible.

On our normal itineraries which travel through Zimbabwe - we usually transit through Mozambique from Malawi (Lilongwe) and bush camp for a night, before crossing into Zimbabwe - where we usually spend a night close to the city centre of the capital Harare.  Due to the fact that the usual campsite we frequent has closed down- it will not be possible to stop here as stated in our brochure and website.Other alternate camping options on the outskirts of the city may allow the adventurous to travel into town independently - details of which our crew will update and pass on to you once on trip.

Our main priority is the safety of all our travellers onboard, as well as that of our crew and vehicles. We hope that by being pro-active we can eliminate any unnecessary hassle and / or disruption to our groups, and at the same time continue supporting the local people and our long standing operators who have struggled for so many years already.

Cholera In Zimbabwe
The well documented outbreak of Cholera in Zimbabwe has attracted the attention of the world’s media for the last few months. It is unfortunate that it is just another problem that Zimbabwe has to face in its prolonged time of struggle.

A number of outbreaks have affected Harare and its surrounds over the last couple of months. Due to the lack of accommodation options ( s highlighted above) - we will not be staying in Harare centre as we would have normally done before. Other areas that have also been affected are Beitbridge (bordering South Africa) and high density suburbs - both of which are not frequented by our trips through Zimbabwe. Even though Cholera is usually prevalent in areas of poor sanitation, where food and water hygiene is low - it is commonly thought that travellers and tourists are at a lower risk of contraction. This is due to the fact that most travellers will be drinking either bottled or treated water (as is the water that we use from our vehicles for cooking and cleaning) , and food will be prepared by the group using hygienic and healthier methods than may be found locally. For more information, guidance and prevention of Cholera please click on the FCO link above. It is not so commonplace for travellers to be advised to be vaccinated against Cholera. If you feel that you would prefer to be covered - please consult your local GP or a travellers health clinic such as Nomad Travel Health Clinics -

We will be allocating the extra days in our Zimbabwe itineraries (that we would have used in Harare) to various other locations that we visit in Zimbabwe (Bulawayo , Antelope Park , Victoria Falls). The length of time of the itinerary, as well as the dates of departure and arrival will remain as per brochure for the various cities that we visit.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any further information.
