Oasis trip for children from Zimbabwean Children’s Home

June 15, 2009

copy-of-table-tennis-and-truck-in-bgrFrom 9-16th June 2009, Julie and Nev-two of our hardworking Africa crew gave up a week of their time to take the children from the Hupenyu Hutsva Children’s Home in Harare, Zimbabwe out on a series of day trips. The week was a great success. All 130 children and staff were taken out on an Oasis truck  to the Kuimba Shiri Bird Park about 30kms outside Harare.  There, they were given a guided tour of the park, wildlife and lake. A cooked lunch was provided and  the afternoon was full of games, face painting and cricket!  According to the staff, children and crew the week was a great success but we’re not sure who had the most fun-the children, staff, or our crew!  We ran a similar event-a week of day trips last September and it, also, was a great success. Many of the children rarely leave the compound they live on and have little change in their daily routine at the Home, so it was nice for us to break the routine and show them a small part of the wonderful sights their country has to offer. We’re hoping to do the same thing again next year.

The money to fund the week was raised by Oasis UK office staff who organised a fundraising comedy night in March of this year. We raised over £700 for Hupenyu Hutsva (and a similar amount for a charity local to our UK office).

Oasis would like to thank Julie and Nev for giving up a week of their time to run this event and Gary, Elcine, Jess and Thompson at the Kuimba Shiri Bird Park for all their support and enthusiasm.
