Congratulations to Zambia’s national football team, Chipolopolo, who beat Ivory Coast last week to win the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time!

Ivory Coast were the favourites so it was a massive victory for the Zambian underdogs, especially since the match took place in Gabon where the Zambian ‘dream team’ of the 90’s tragically died in a plane crash.

Thousands of Zambians took the day off work and turned out to welcome their team home, lining the road leading to Lusaka airport – according to the BBC’s report, some had walked 15 miles to get there.  The Chipolopolo received a hero’s welcome and dedicated their win to their predecessors who died in 1993.
