OPTION ONE: 4 DAYS: TAMPOPATA-CANDAMO RESERVE, PERU
A four day add-on to the 15-day Peru Encompassed trip, departing Cuzco on the last day of Peru Encompassed trip and returning to Lima four days later.
Day 1 Depart Cuzco by plane to the town of Puerto Maldonado, on the edge of the Tambopata Candamo Reserve. We enter the Reserve by boat along the Madre de Dios River and reach our jungle lodge, our base for the next 3 nights. In the afternoon we can take a walk with our local guides who have extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna of this area. Evening meal included.
Days 2 & 3 During our time in the Reserve our guide will take us on walks and canoe trips to discover the amazing array of plant, bird, animal and insect life in the jungle. We can walk to one of the ox-bow lakes that abounds with exotic birdlife. Taking a boat onto the lake we also hope to see giant river otters and caimans. Our guide will tell us about the traditional uses of the plants and trees and point out different types of monkey, macaw and moth! 3 meals a day included.
Day 4 Time to leave the jungle, we head back in the boat to Puerto Maldonado for the flight back to Lima. Breakfast included.
PLEASE NOTE: As of 2009 this jungle extension will become part of our Peru Encomapssed trip.
OPTION TWO: 6 DAYS: MADIDI NATIONAL PARK & RIO YACUMA, BOLIVIA
A six day add-on to the 21 day Peru Encompassed trip, which includes a trip to the Jungle AND the Pampas! Departs La Paz the day following the end of the Peru Encompassed trip (depending on flight schedule).
Day 1 Depart La Paz by plane to Rurrenabaque, a small town on the Beni River. We transfer you to your hotel and overnight here. Dinner included.
Days 2 & 3 Meeting our guide we jump on board jeeps for the journey to the Yacuma River in the Pampas. We transfer to motorised canoe and travel to our camp on the edge of the river, passing tortoises sunning themselves, alligators lying on the banks with their jaws open and capybara cooling off in the shallows. During our time in the Pampas we hope to spot pink dolphin, all sorts of monkeys, maybe a toucan or anaconda. In the evening we venture out in the canoe to see alligators' eyes glowing in the dark. Our accommodation is basic no flushing loos or showers! 3 meals a day are included.
Day 4 Back to the jeeps for the drive to Rurrenabaque. From here we travel by motorised canoe along the Beni River to our jungle camp in Madidi National Park.
Day 5 Our guide will take us on walks to spot different kinds of monkeys and birds and teach us about the traditional uses of plants, some for medicine, some for poison! At night we can go on a trek, the only way to experience the sounds of the jungle! 3 meals included.
Day 6 Transfer back to Rurrenabaque for the flight to La Paz. Breakfast included.
