During this trip you will visit the following countries: Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.
The Long Way Down
This trip follows almost exactly the same route as that taken by Ewan McGregor, of Star Wars fame, and Charlie Borman on their motorcycle trip from UK to Cape Town in the documentary Long Way Down. For anyone who has seen this fascinating documentary the allure of such an expedition will be clear.
Cairo to Cape Town - The Highlights
Weeks 1 and 2 of this epic tour from Cairo to Cape Town will showcase all of the wonders of Egypt which include the great Pyramids and Sphinx at Giza, the Western Desert, the Valley of Kings, the Karnak and Luxor Temples and a ferry trip from Aswan into Northern Sudan.
Weeks 3 and 4 will take travellers on a journey along the Nile to the city of Khartoum where you will visit the Hamed al Nil Tomb, the daily camel market, the Pyramids at Meroe and the temples at Naqa. From Khartoum you will move on to the country of Ethiopia where you will spend 5 days in the town of Gondar from where it is possible to organise visits to some of Ethiopia's most famous and historical sites.
Weeks 5 and 6 of your trip from Cairo to Cape Town will take you to Addis Ababa with its many fantastic attractions to Kenya where you will visit the Samburu National Park and see some of the most spectacular wildlife Kenya has to offer. From there it is time to move into Uganda.
Weeks 6 and 7 will expose you to some of the following Ugandan attractions; the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and rehabilitation centre, the Virunga Range of volcanic mountains, the legendary Mountain Gorillas, Lake Victoria and the Bujagali Falls. We will then re-enter Kenya for a visit to Lake Naivasha and a game drive in the Lake Nakuru National Park.
Weeks 8 and 9 of this epic trip from Cairo to Cape Town will be spent exploring Tanzania and its magnificent safari opportunities. You will also visit a local Masai Village before departing for Dar Es Salaam where you will see Mt Kilimanjaro. We will then move onto Zanzibar before reaching Malawi.
Weeks 11 and 12 will take us from the exquisite shores of Lake Malawi onto Mozambique - an African holiday gem like no other. From there it's on to Zimbabwe with its many safari opportunities, historical sites and the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls.
Weeks 13 and 14 will take you from 'The Smoke That Thunders' into the gorgeous country of Botswana where you will visit the Chobe National Park which sports massive numbers of elephants; take a cruise on the Chobe River and the Okavango Delta.
From here you will embark on the final leg of your tour from Cairo to Cape Town. Weeks 15 and 16 will take you from Botswana into Namibia towards the Etosha National Park - one of the world's greatest wildlife reserves. From there we will move on to see the Skeleton Coast and visit the Cape Cross Seal Colony and the diamond rich town of Swakopmund. We then travel into South Africa stopping at the impressive Fish River Canyon, the Orange River and the Cederburg Wilderness. We will then visit a historical winery in Stellenbosch before descending on Cape Town, the last stop in this amazing tour from Cairo to Cape Town.
Many visitors decide to spend an additional few days exploring Cape Town. This city is one of the world's most popular tourist destinations and some of its attractions include, Table Mountain, Robben Island, the various wine routes, the Hermanus whale route and the various shops, museums, theatres and galleries on offer.
