Overland Expedition Vehicles - Africa / Middle East

KEY FEATURES OF OASIS OVERLAND EXPEDITION VEHICLES

The majority of our vehicles are Scania 93 series 4x2 trucks of between 220 and 280 horsepower.
They are purpose built trucks made to deal with the terrain and climates we encounter along the way on our trips in Africa and the Middle East.
During all the trips preventative maintenance is carried out by our drivers who are trained at our workshop in the UK. Oasis vehicles are built mainly in the UK, with practicality and comfort in mind.
Oasis owns and operates all of our own expedition vehicles.

All trucks are equipped with:
  • Inward and forward facing coach seats with head rests, providing more storage space for your souvenirs and luggage as well as more leg room for our overland travel groups to stretch out on the longer journeys. It means we can't pack as many people in as with 'bus' type forward-facing layouts with narrow aisles, but the extra space is always appreciated!

  • The Beach - a unique feature which enables several people at a time to be up and out in the open with panoramic views on our Africa and Middle East tours.

  • Under-seat storage for your backpack so you have easy access even when driving

  • A mixture of side and rear roll-up and fixed windows, providing extensive viewing

  • All trucks are equipped with sand mats and, where necessary tyre chains

  • 12V charging points for Video and Mobile phone batteries

  • On board stereo with MP3, MD or CD walkman adaptor

  • A comprehensive range of spare parts and tools

  • Large dried and fresh food storage capacities

  • Onboard truck safe for valuables and money

  • Overhead lockers for cameras and daybags

  • Large water carrying capacity

  • Internal truck buzzer system

  • Internal and external lighting

Accessory equipment carried:
  • Spacious 'Dome' or 'A frame' style two-person tents with in-built ground sheets and mosquito netting

  • Cooler boxes (for storage of fresh food and drinks)

  • All weather awnings for wet weather and shade

  • Professionally compiled expedition medical kit

  • All cooking and cutlery equipment

OASIS CREW
Our crew have gained a considerable knowledge and experience of travelling even before they join us. They have a passion and an enthusiasm for their work and for the countries and places we visit.
Except in exceptional circumstances, all vehicles have two crew - a Driver and a Tour Leader.
Their experience and knowledge will enable you to get the most out of your trip and to have an unforgettable experience. Their roles are many and varied and include amongst other things, maintaining the truck throughout the trip, organising group activities and bookings, managing trip funds, overseeing group rosters, organising border crossings and permits, organising the day to day running of the trip and passing on general information to the group. However, Oasis Tour Leaders are not guides as such, so do not expect them to hold your hand every step of the way, get out and experience things for yourself, read the guide books, get lost in markets, met the local people and talk to them - its all part of the experience!
