Volunteer - Adventure Surf Club Project

This project is a great way for a volunteer to gain experience working with children and groups between the ages of 12 to 14 years, and learn new outdoor activities like surfing. The Adventure Surf Club is for children from disadvantaged areas who do not have access to sporting facilities and would ordinarily spend their free time on the streets.

Through the extramural activities at the club, the children are taught life lessons and how to keep themselves occupied. The club focuses on swimming and surfing lessons, but the kids also take part in other activities such as hiking, educational classes, adventure courses and team work.

During school hours, volunteers assist in the local schools and educare centres, supporting the children in computer, maths and other lessons. All volunteers will also spend time with children in a school environment helping them to learn and in the pool and sea, teaching children to swim or surf.

Volunteers need to be able to swim for the surfing project, however do not need any surfing experience.

Volunteer Tasks

Volunteers will help in the daily running of the project, for example:

Volunteers will work 3 – 5 days a week with the children. The volunteers’ mornings are either spent learning to surf, helping in a school or relaxing on the beach. Afternoons are spent with the kids teaching them to surf or one of the above activities. Volunteers will have a chance to learn how to surf with an instructor and have use of the boards on their off days.

The "Project Contribution" included in your overall fee will contribute to the long-term sustainability of the project during your actual volunteer stay on the ground.
