Chris leaving Quito

I’m sorry to be leaving South America after an informative and intersting 17 days in which I have visited Quito, Lima, Cusco and La Paz – all very different cities with so much to offer travellers and no matter how many times I visit each place I discover something new or meet new friends. One of the best things for me on this trip though has been meeting up with our crew (Cade, Benny, Mel, Franco and Jesus) and being reminded first hand what a fantastic, dedicated and loyal bunch of people we at Oasis are fortunate enough to have working for us. I’m sorry I missed Tracy and Nick but they were too far south with their group. SORRY!!

Equally rewarding for me has been my encounters with our many and varied local partners in all the above cities, like our hard working Inca Trail operator (most of us are not aware how much goes on behind the scenes, organising the porters and all the food and equipment, as well as the bureauocracy of booking the train tickets and the Inca Trail itself, all of which has to be booked and paid in cash), the hotels we use and chatting to their staff where even the cleaners know our Oasis crew and clients and thank me for sending our groups to them. Among others I have also met up with our partners who operate the Galapagos and Jungle trips, Death Road Mountain Biking, Spanish Schools and visited some of the voluntary projects Oasis supports plus I was introduced to a new project outside Cusco for street children which I am hoping we can support in the future.

Oh well, no more Cerveza, Empanadas, Cerviche or Sun, its back to the office for me on Monday!
