Tunis to Istanbul overland trip starting as scheduled

Matmata Hotel, Oasis Overland accommodation in Tunisia

Matmata Hotel, Tunisia

Our 58 day Oasis Caravan from Tunis to Istanbul will be starting in Tunis on 14th February as scheduled.  The Foreign & Commonwealth Office has amended its travel advice and is no longer advising against travel to Tunisia.

The FCO reports that ‘all major groups have ended their demonstrations’ but we are aware that this is a time of great change for Tunisia and further unrest or demonstrations could still occur.  However, we can be flexible and change our itinerary at short notice in order for the trip to progress safely.

The Oasis Caravan travels through Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Turkey.  Currently the FCO advises against non-essential travel to Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor and Suez.  We hope for all concerned, especially Egyptians, that the situation will improve there and that we will be able to follow our scheduled itinerary as planned but as mentioned above, we can alter our route in order to avoid any areas where travel is advised against.

Some journalists and intrepid travellers believe that times like these can be a great opportunity to visit places with fewer tourists and to experience a country during a time of change.  We hope we can help to support local people who provide our accommodation, transport and excursions during what must be a very difficult time.

After February, the next 58 day Oasis Caravan runs from Istanbul to Tunis, starting on 2nd May 2011.
