People, pig, punch & party!

Clare & Steve (the Dream Team) our crew in Africa sent this update from their  Nile Trans Cape to Cairo trip

People make all the difference! For us crew, we’re lucky, we get to go to amazing places & see amazing things every single day, the one thing that makes each trip different is the people we spend our time with. Yes, everyone wants to see the African animals, meet the locals, photograph the scenery, get lost in the markets etc. but we all like to have a good time with our new found friends while we do so!

Our time in Zimbabwe was filled with amazing scenery, animals galore, historic ruins & beautiful people. We had Steve’s (Sexypants as we call him) birthday in Victoria Falls which saw him dancing up a storm on top of the bar. I’m sure most of us will also remember that night in Antelope Park & John’s almost too professional table dance!

Malawi , the warm heart of Africa, played host to (Lady) Catherine’s birthday and Oasis Overland’s Truck Olympics at Kande Beach. We roped in another overland truck (quite literally during the tug o’war) and had a fab day of fun on the shores of beautiful Lake Malawi. There might have been a drink or two involved and back at camp our pig was roasting nicely (by the way – the best crackling EVER!). Heather had a 2 day birthday over 2 countries which started with a “bad taste” theme at Chitimba Beach….oh the outfits!

Tanzania is of course home to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and the spice island of Zanzibar. It just keeps getting better & our tuk-tuk convoy to the ferry to Zanzibar was hilarious!

Kenya however is bitter sweet as we have to say goodbye to some of our overland group in Nairobi. This is the sad part of our job – we have to say goodbye a lot. Our new friends needed a good send off though so we headed out to a nice restaurant for our final dinner together, had a champagne breakfast the following morning and topped it all off with an invite to my friend’s wedding which saw me meeting the Vice President of Kenya!  And on my birthday too!  All the very best to Phoebe, Areme, Catherine, Shoko, Phil & Jeanine – we’ll see you on your next Oasis Overland trip!

We’re pretty much half way through our journey from Cape Town to Cairo together & we’ve had a lot of laughs along the way.  We had some new people join us in Nairobi & they’re part of the family already. Welcome Allan & Anna P.

Now it’s time to head through Uganda, one of my favourite countries. What can we get up to next?
