Director attends AITO organised FCO meeting in Whitehall

I recently returned from a very informative morning spent with the Travel Advice Team at the British Foreign Office in Whitehall. It was wonderful to walk down the ancient corridors of government imagining the likes of Ghandi and Churchill stepping over the same mosaic stone floors so worn by feet over 100’s of years that they are grooved like dried up river beds.

The AITO organised meeting included going over how the FCO (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) team handle a crises abroad, as well as meeting the various travel advice heads of various continents. There were 10 other Adventure Tour Operators at the meeting and we discussed various recent events around the world and how we as Adventure Tour Operators who are responsible for so many travellers can work more closely together. Overall I was very impressed with the travel advice team. They are an incredibly dedicated bunch of people who have to keep up to speed on every country in the world at all hours of the day and night and collate an awful lot of info. This is one of the many benefits of being part an AITO member, it gives smaller independent companies such as ours access to government.
