UK Oasis Office Staff Fundraiser….

Samuel, the School's Headteacher in one of the classrooms

Our UK office team at Oasis Overland  have been organising bi-annual, fundraising comedy nights for the past 4 years. The proceeds from each show are shared between a local and overseas good cause. To date these events have raised £7,500 for local and overseas charities. We are delighted  to announce that our 9th show  on 15th, October 2011 raised £1247.60 to share between  our two good causes-The Sudanese Community Development Project in Cairo (www.scdp-egypt.com) and Sturminster Newton High School (www.mysnhs.net).  This takes the total raised, so far, to £8,750.

The Sudanese Community Development Project is a school for Sudanese refugee children in Cairo. Apart from a very small registration fee per child, the school is funded entirely on charitable donations. There are currently 250 children attending the school. We were actually able to send the school a cheque for £1038.37-part of the money coming from Sponsorship donations from our Sponsor-A-Child scheme and the rest from the comedy night proceeds.

The school’s Headteacher described the donation as ‘Wonderful!’ He is meeting with our representative in Cairo today to discuss how the money will be spent. If you are interested in finding out more about the school, or sponsoring a child there click here.

Our next show will take place on 24th March 2012 at The Exchange , Sturminster Newton, Dorset.  It’s our tenth show and we’re hoping to reach the £10,000 mark. Tickets, at just £12 each, are on sale from the venue now
