Travel overland to Cape Town – one of our favourite cities!

Cape Town was recently voted Favourite City Worldwide in the Telegraph Travel Awards 2012.

It’s one of our favourites too!  How can you not love a city that looks like this?

Breakfast at Sossusvlei in Namibia on our overland trip to Cape Town

Many of our Africa overland trips travel to Cape Town, including the 21 day Deserts and Gameparks.  This trip starts in Victoria Falls and travels overland through Botswana and Namibia before ending in this awesome South African city.

Cape Town is a vibrant, exciting city with loads to see and do.  If the cable car up Table Mountain is too tame for you, you can abseil off the top.  You can scuba dive in the ocean or swim with ragged toothed sharks in the aquarium.  For something more sedate take a wine tour in the surrounding vineyards or for something more poignant, a tour of Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years.

Shark dive in Cape Town on our Africa overland tripsFebruary in particular is a fantastic time to arrive in Cape Town, the weather is sunny and dry and there are lots of events where you can mingle with the locals.  The Hands-on Harvest Festival in the Robertson Wine Valley gives you the chance to get involved in the harvest for a day and you can even stomp your own grapes!  Keen runners can enter the Nelson Mandela 27 for Freedom Race a 27km run which symbolises Nelson Mandela’s 27 years in prison (there’s also a 10km option!).  Cape Town is the gay capital of Africa – join the party at the Cape Town Pride FestivalLastly, rugby fans will feel right at home in South Africa and the Cape Town 10’s Rugby Tournament on 1st and 2nd of Feb promises 80 teams, 2 days and rugby’s biggest party!

Join our Deserts & Gameparks overland trip starting 12th Jan to arrive in Cape Town for a fantastic February!
