Adventure Safaris

Many of us dream of heading out on an exotic African safari – with elephants wandering by and cocktails served at the waterhole. Unfortunately, this fantasy is often not exactly affordable for most of us. And quite frankly, sitting with a drink while a guide practically brings the animals to you is not exactly a real safari. Adventure safaris are more fun and authentic and are the only way to get to know the real African continent and its inhabitants.

What Could Happen on an Adventure Safari?

If cocktails by the waterhole are not quite exciting enough for you, then an overland adventure safari is the way to go. Head out across Africa on large purpose built trucks, with comfortable seating and enough windows that you can see everything going on around you. Along your adventure safari in Africa you could stop to bungee jump off Victoria Falls; go white water rafting in the Zambezi River or even go dune sledding in Namibia.

In Zimbabwe you could stop off at a private game farm and go game viewing on horseback or even walk amongst lion cubs. An adventure safari guide could take you out on a private bush walk where you will come face to face with elusive animals like the black rhino or the enormous hippo. Alternatively, you could take a boat out on Botswana’s Chobe River and view the animals coming in for a drink. In the Okavango you could explore the waterways in dug out canoes, coming face to face with wildlife you never thought you would ever see off your TV screens. Camp under the African stars, go deep sea fishing on the coast or simply admire the ancient rock art that decorate the continent – all on an adventure safari.

I actually just wrote a blog featuring Overlanding as one of the cheapest ways to travel the world, and even though overland travel isn’t for everyone, it is SO much fun.

Overlanding features in my blog on cheap ways to travel: http://www.overlandingafrica.com/blog/how-to/cheap-ways-to-travel-the-world
